Soil Sampling Tips

April 8, 2014 - We asked Chris Eschhofen of Eschhofen Systems to give us some quick tips in soil sampling.  His company samples thousands of acres in Northwest Ohio while providing consulting services from the collected data.  Chris utilizes the Farm Works™ Mobile software and the rugged Yuma® computer.  One of the reasons he has enjoyed the Yuma was due to the ruggedness and large screen – two features that are very important in terms of outside use.

Feature Highlights of Version 2014

Farm Works has released Version 2014.  Some of the major additions to the office solutions include:

  • Compatible with the Trimble TMX-2050 Display - Available in Mapping for reading and writing data to the TMX-2050 display.  This includes reading from a USB drive as well as processing data through the Connected Farm solution’s wireless office to field data exchange.

  • Additional Support for Ag Leader *.agdata Files - Available in Mapping where jobs are completed over multiple days.

  • Clip Background Maps to Multiple Field Boundaries Using Farms or Clients - Available in Mapping for importing background maps for individual fields at the client or farm level.  This option is useful for creating soil type background maps for each field under the client or farm with one import.

AGCO Connectivity Announcement

February 24, 2014 - DULUTH, Ga. — AGCO, Your Agriculture Company (NYSE:AGCO), announces a new interoperability between Trimble’s Farm Works Software® and VarioDoc™ and TaskDoc™ as part of its Fuse™ Technologies initiative. This interoperability will allow operators to transfer task files between their machine’s cab and the Farm Works Software.

AGCO’s VarioDoc and TaskDoc are task file management systems that allow operators to wirelessly transfer task files between the machine and office without the need for a data card or USB flash drive. This eliminates the need for the operator to remember to save information to a data card or USB flash drive, and physically transfer it to the farm office. Transferring task files wirelessly ensures that all information is securely and efficiently transferred to the office for use in future management decisions and record keeping.

Enhancements include:

  • E-filing W2s and 1099s - Farm Works Accounting can now save 2013 Forms W-2 and 1099-Misc data in a .csv file that can be used for electronic submission. These files are supported by the Dynamic Systems e-file options available at  Customers can go to this website and create an account and upload their W-2 and 1099 data to have it electronically submitted. This web service has other useful features, including the ability to have printouts mailed or emailed to employees and vendors.
  • Check Printing Updates - Farm Works Accounting now has an option to “Summarize detail lines on check stubs” for the memo area when printing checks.
  • Support for 2013 Federal Tax Forms (W-2, W-3, 1099-Misc and 1096)
  • Support for 2014 Federal, FICA, and Medicare Tax Withholding
  • Advanced Guidance Line Management – Farm Works Mapping now supports Advanced Guidance Line/Row Crop Management Tools which are presently available in Surface. These tools will now be available in both the Mapping and Surface programs.  Users can now create a series of guidance lines including the ability to offset and smooth lines as well as clipping lines to field boundaries and other lines.

  • Clip Background Maps to Multiple Field Boundaries Using Farms or Clients - Farm Works Mapping can now import background maps for individual fields at the client or farm level.  When you import a shape file as a background map at the client or farm level, there is an option to “Clip to Field Boundaries”.  This option is useful for importing soil types and will result in soil type background maps being created for each field under the client or farm with the resulting layer being clipped to the boundary for that field.
  • Improved Fertilizer Report - Farm Works Mapping has improved fertilizer reports to only show applications for the selected nutrients.
  • Electronic Crop Insurance Reporting for RCIS - Farm Works Mapping now supports the creation of an XML File that will soon be supported by RCIS (Rural Community Insurance Services).  Select File / Submit Insurance Data where an option for RCIS is now available which will create the XML file.  RCIS is in the process of creating a web portal where users can upload these files.  This portal will be available in February 2014.
  • Expanded Map Attributes for Points/Lines/Polygons - Farm Works Mapping now allows you to add Web links and file attachments to map attributes.  This allows you to have an attribute on points/lines/polygons that’s a link so that you can click on the link and go directly to the website (in your browser).  File attachments can also be added to a point/line/polygon so the attachment can be easily displayed.

Customers of the Office software who are subscribed to the Update Service Plan (USP) will automatically receive these features by selecting “Check for Updates" located under the Help menu.  Another option is to use the download link:
