Lorra and Jim Martens (Martens Farms) have been dealers and consultants of Farm Works software and technology since 1996. In addition to selling Farm Works Software, Martens Farms offer precision ag hardware and training opportunities. Their goal is to help farmers use record-keeping and GPS technology to manage farming enterprises, make better farming decisions, and improve profits. Lorra and Jim work together with customers to define the best match of software and hardware for their particular budget and farming needs with flexibility toward future options. The Martens Farms website (www.123farmworks.com) offers secure online sales of many of their products and services, and also feature tips, downloads, and other useful information.
History of Martens Farms
In 1994 they decided it was time to find a better way to manage the farm as a business. So they decided to purchase Trac, Funds, and Stock for their operation. Choosing Farm Works Software was an easy decision - no other affordable farm software handled the financial and field information in one integrated package. In 1996 they noticed other farmers struggling with software needs, so this presented an opportunity to start a business focusing on Farm Works. It was that year they became dealers of Farm Works and started exhibiting at farm shows. Marten Farms worked hard in servicing their customers and earned the #1 U.S. dealer ranking in 2003. Today Martens Farms still rank at the top of all other dealers due to focusing on their customers and doing honest business with them.
Using Farm Works on Martens Farms
Lorra and Jim Martens use Farm Works almost every day on their own farm. Have you ever been randomly spot checked by the EPA or state on chemical usage? Martens Farms have been randomly selected twice (once by the State of Kansas and the other time by someone checking for EPA records). Both have been called during harvest and planting to request on farm visits. Lorra says, "The first spot check was really nerve-racking, but each visit only took 15 minutes. The Trac software delivered all the detailed chemical records required. It was great when the agents requested more information about Farm Works when leaving our farm."
The bottom line? Use Farm Works to track all your field history, yield data, accounting, enterprising, herd records, and maps in one easy-to-use program. Using this technology has saved Jim and Lorra Martens time, money and resources. Lorra states, "Get started today because your records are important to you and the generations that follow in your footsteps."
Training on Farm Works
A major focus of Martens Farms is training and one-on-one consulting. These services help new users get up and running quickly and effectively with the software and hardware. Lorra has worked with countless farmers and ranchers on a consulting basis. She uses that consulting experience and the Martens' farming experience to help producers set up records, reports, and processes that are most useful to their specific operation. Training and consulting are offered at client locations, the Martens' farm, in classroom settings, and over the phone. One-on-one, on-site consulting sessions are particularly productive. Many clients send their Farm Works project files by email or the Martens' online dropbox for a "quick fix" or for a phone-based training session using their own farm data. The Martens also offer a "Quick Start" package for new users which includes basic setup for a typical chart of accounts, sample layers in Site, sample field patterns, custom reports, and other handy "perks" to save users time and effort.
